About Evelyn


Evelyn Gard, MA Ed.
Evelyn is the director of public relations and marketing at Gateway Community College in New Haven. She is a board member and a past president of the Southern CT Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and was chair of the Marketing Council for the Connecticut Community College System for 2007-08. In 2007 Business New Haven named her one of the region’s Rising Stars and Connecticut Business Times magazine recognized her as one of 2007’s Twenty Noteworthy Women.

Known to her friends as Evie (eh-vee), she has over four decades of experience in musical theater, broadcasting, vocal ensembles as a producer, director and performer. Evie is an assistant conductor and cantor at Saint Thomas More Chapel at Yale. She enjoyed eight years with the Yale Camerata and is currently active with the College Choir at NVCC, the Bruckner Choir, and the Richard Gard singers. Most recent directing credits include the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical Hair at the Waterbury Palace Theater, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Godspell and The Rocky Horror Show Live Halloween Experience.

An educator for more than 20 years, Evie continues to teach a class each semester – Early Childhood Special Education (fall) and Behavior Modification (spring). She’s is also an advocate for civic engagement and has worked with MacNeil/Lehrer’s By the People and various community organizations in the Greater New Haven region to promote open dialogue and discourse.

Evie holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a minor in psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in education from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She is the proud mom of three wonderful adult children (Anthony, Elisabeth and Veronika) and is married to Richard Gard.
