Music Scholarships

Naugatuck Valley Community College offers the most comprehensive music curriculum in the New England region.  As such the Music Department is not only a vital resource for education but also enriches the cultural diversity and musical offerings throughout the state.

Music majors must take private lessons each semester of their residency in the program. Community college students are required to pay an additional lesson fee above the cost of tuition. For many, this additional expense creates a barrier to completing the degree.

In response, a local philanthropist established a dedicated endowment through the NVCC Foundation to provide music lesson scholarships to qualified NVCC students.  Currently, 10 students out of the 160 music majors receive lesson scholarships. It is the goal of the music department to make lesson scholarships available to all qualified music majors.

To qualify for scholarship lesssons, students must:

1. be enrolled at least 3/4 time

2. be a declared music major

3. demonstrate committment to complete a

    degree in music

4. demonstrate talent and growing competency

5. participate in at least one performance ensemble

6. attend classes and lessons consistently

Sponsorship Opportunities

Donations can be named or anonymous, and can be directed to one of two programs:

1. Direct Sponsor (the most immediate way to help):  donations made in increments of $250 to support one student for one semester

2. Endowment: the Endowment is administered by the NVCC Foundation.  Donations are accepted in any amount and qualify for 50% matching funds from the State of Connecticut. Endowment earnings are released by the trustee to support lessons.
